This discipline is the driving force behind synthetic biology, which aims to design biological systems with new functions for applications ranging from healthcare to industry..

At Enzymethic, genetic engineering is implemented to produce recombinant enzymes in bacterial or yeast hosts.

Precision fermentation

Fermentation is an ancient process that uses microorganisms, yeasts, bacteria, fungi, to transform substrates into valuable products , a practice already used by our ancestors to make bread, beer, and wine.

Precision fermentation goes a step further. It uses genetically modified strains to produce specific molecules, such as enzymes, therapeutic proteins, or flavorings. This process is now a pillar of the green industry, offering the ability to produce chemical compounds using organisms and thus reducing environmental impact.

At Enzymethic, precision fermentation is at the heart of production. Modified strains of Komagataella phaffii and E. coli are cultivated to produce the enzymes of interest.

Protein science

Protein science is the study of proteins, from their structure to their function, including their interactions and dynamics. It draws on techniques from biochemistry, biophysics, and enzymology to understand how proteins function. It is a fundamental discipline that informs both academic research and industrial development, from the discovery of new drugs to the design of biocatalysts

At Enzymethic, protein science is applied during the purification and characterization stages. Using FPLC to purify proteins via chromatography, the purified protein is then studied by monitoring its enzymatic activity.

Open source and Open science

The application of open science principles to biotechnology is a long process that begins with the selection of the right set of tools: plasmids, strains, techniques, and processes, to ensure the freedom to use them. After developing these processes, the goal is to find the appropriate formats for sharing knowledge: protocols, documentation, publications, as well as genetic and biological materials

We publish general protocols on our website and on dedicated platforms such as protocol.io. Product-specific protocols are also published in each product’s documentation. We publish innovative results on BioArchive and then in peer-reviewed journals. We share biological materials directly under openMTA licenses and collaborate with Addgene for our plasmids.
